Elective rounds- placement in these rounds will be done independently by the students (subject to the teacher’s guidelines). Every student will be placed in these elective rounds in accordance with the dates under which appear “specialized elective course” below the number of the student’s group. In order to arrange an elective round, the student will have to contact the Department Manager and receive a confirmation in writing to carry out the rounds on the intended dates.
A few things to emphasize regarding placement in electives:
1) It is possible to be placed in any of the hospital departments which are affiliated with the Technion Faculty of Medicine which are not part of the core departments.
2) A week of rounds has to be complete, meaning 5 work days. The rounds cannot be carried out on festivals, festival evenings/Hol Hamoed, Friday-Saturday or instead of other shifts.
3) Every elective round is 5 working days long, except the Surgical elective which is 10 working days long.
4) At the end of each round, the department manager will have to sign (with a handwritten signature) on the original form handed out by the secretariat.
Clinical Free Choice rounds- recognized as an elective. Throughout the duration of the clinical years, up to two weeks of clinical free choice rounds can be carried out. The elective can be in medical orientation, research, or in the framework of community service, subject to the approval of the Clinical Years Coordinator. By contacting the Student Coordinator, one can obtain permission for a free choice elective before the rounds begin.
Please note:
■ | Medical orientation- rounds in a hospital that is not affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine in a public hospital only, another subject in a department in which the student has already done a round (for example an additional week in the Gynecology Department), student exchange overseas, Clinical Experience in Africa etc. |
■ | Research orientation- carrying out research for the final project of the degree, with approval from the supervisor that the research was carried out during the dates of the rounds. |
■ | Community service- volunteering in a shelter for abused women, in a nursing home etc. |
After carrying out the rounds, it is required to present the appropriate approval to the Students Coordinator.
